Essences

Essences are a system by which players can work towards obtaining uniques through grinding rather than purely by getting a lucky drop. They are discovered by defeating the corresponding bosses for the first time. Players can select up to three different essences to collect at a time. Once selected, the corresponding boss will have a chance to drop their essence upon being killed. Once enough essence is collected, it can then be traded for the unique item dropped by that boss.

To activate collection of an essence or exchange essence for a unique item, players must visit Astake, the essence keeper and interact with the essence exchange altar. Here, they can also keep track of how much essence has been collected so far.
